The one boat style banned by the APBA as to dangerous.
I spent about 30 years as a marine engineer/designer and my first racing boat was a 21 foot garvey with a 394 Olds engine with direct drive to the shaft/prop.... A totally insane boat that we kept the rudder steering...........Picture 2 people racing across the bay at 80 mph sitting on the transom steering the boat with a tiller.......Obviously I learned one or two things after I went to school. But no other boat was ever as much fun.

Re: Fuel Mileage Races, Love ‘em or Hate ‘em

Sorry for the delayed answer, work called and someone I won't mention(me) forgot her computer.

The odd thing is that the Raceway was actually making the city money. The football, hockey, baseball teams cost us taxpayers a fortune to support. Even the Speedway is costing us money. .......yet that tiny little track was making the city money...... So what does the mayor try to eliminate

Re: Twin 275’s at Texas Motor Speedway.

The biggest complaint I heard was the randomness caused some big separation of the points leaders. I can see where inverting field would have provided for some fireworks by forcing those guys to have to work up towards the front.

Plus, that whole half-time spectacle was goofy. I'd rather see them go straight to pit road, let the crews work on the cars, and fill that hour with driver interviews from pit road, and work in some interviews with other folks. I think that would have made some compelling TV, but I don't know how it would have worked for the people at the track.

Re: Fuel Mileage Races, Love ‘em or Hate ‘em

Yeah, my personal preference is for the small, one- or two-car teams. I just can't get behind rooting for a Hendricks or a Gibbs or a Penske. I was pretty happy when Regan Smith won a couple of weeks ago. I think that's great for NASCAR.

That's sad to hear about the Nashville Fairgrounds. Why would this cat ever want to tear it down? Makes no sense, unless it's costing the city LOTS of money. Especially when you look at all the money cities waste on other things...

Re: Fuel Mileage Races, Love ‘em or Hate ‘em

The Nashville Fairgrounds. They had a long fight to keep it open and I feel it's almost a duty now for a race fan in the Nashville area to go to as many races there as they can. Basically we have a mayor who came from new england and doesn't like rednecks (even if they went to NYIT and NYU). And he'd love nothing better than to tear it down.

I'm of a different era and first got to like NASCAR because of the single team against single team (first favorite was fireball Roberts). So for now I will watch 4 or 5 races this season and wait to see how the new Indy cars sort out.

Except that makes the big teams better, and I'm not really thrilled with the likely outcome of that.

What Fairgrounds are you talking about?

Re: Controversial ending.

I finally saw of video of the race finish. Any ideas what the hell Sauter was thinking?

Re: Fuel Mileage Races, Love ‘em or Hate ‘em

I sided on the dislike of fuel mileage races. But the fiasco of turning Menard's car into a push truck for Burton and Harvick was the straw that broke the camels back. Before long you will have teamates lining up during a caution and getting pushed by their teamates. A slow motion Daytona tag team race to conserve mileage.
Sorry but I now refuse to watch any race that's going to be a fuel mileage race. It's been a couple weeks since I watched any of the races and I will not go to the Nashville race this year. Instead I will go watch the races at the Fairgrounds.

Re: Why Racing?

YAY!

Re: Save the Date: United States Grand Prix in Austin, June 17, 2012

I pray to the good Lord that they somehow line up the normal food vendors for outdoors events at this clambake.
